Successful Kick-Off Assembly

Everitt Middle School hosted our Kick-Off Assembly for Fuel Up to Play 60 on February 24, 2017 and it was a huge success! Miles, the Denver Broncos mascot, and Sam, a Denver Broncos cheerleader, both facilitated the games and pumped up the excitement for the entire school. Our student leader team spoke about the importance of healthy eating (Fueling Up) and exercise/movement (to do 60 minutes of activity per day) as it relates to academics, lifestyle, and health. They also demonstrated some of the games associated with nutrition and assisted volunteers that Miles pulled from the audience to join in the fun. During the assembly, the student leader team displayed the new recess equipment Everitt Middle School received through the Fuel Up to Play 60 Grant pertaining to the Ramp Up for Recess Play. The students have been enjoying the new recess equipment and games. They also revealed the new smoothie machine we received for the Snack Smarter in School Play. Students participating in after school clubs and athletic activities have been enjoying the free smoothies the student leader team prepares and distributes. Students and adults have been working together to make sure the most nutritious offerings possible are available at school and have been encouraging and promoting the physical activities for recess.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The Healthy Schools adult team worked with the student leader team to conduct assessments about the school, promote the assembly, and encourage other students school-wide to sign up for Fuel Up To Play 60! The students continue to promote the activities at recess and have helped every day after school to help make and distribute smoothies while the adults supervise.
