On March 7th, 2017, the Celebration K-8 School organized a successful kick off event for its Farm to School Play. Parent volunteers teamed up with the cafeteria manager to organize a taste test of hydroponically-grown basil, lettuce, and basil-based dishes (i.e. tomato/mozzarella/basil "burgers"). The event was organized for all 130+ 6th graders and it was very successful.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We are planning on organizing a taste test once a month using the equipment purchased through the grant (blender, Peddler's cart, work table, chalkboard sign, and cutting board).

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students are having a stronger interest in eating healthier foods. Discussions among students have been sparked.
