Successful Pirate Family Night at Rutledge

We had a book fair in November that had a Pirate theme. Our Leadership events team decided to make this a collaborative event that would take families on a Mapquest to different stations, where they had activities that used our 7 Habits of Highly Successful Schools. My Performing Arts teacher and I collaborated in making the gym a " Sharpen the Saw" area where we danced using Pirate themed music and played tag games using a Pirate theme as well. We had over 300 families come in the gym throughout the night . We were all very sweaty from the movement and it was a fun way to incorporate the Pirate theme. We have another themed night coming up in April for " Let's go Camping"

How did you accomplish your goals?

My Leadership Team gets together once every 2 weeks to plan events that will involve parents and students being active. Our goal is to have one Family event night in the Fall and one in the Spring. We would like to have ones for next school year involve Healthy Food Snacks made by parents and kids.
