Sunset Valley Elementary Assists the Lees Summit Community with a Food Drive

Our Nutrition Council students are always involved in our menus and they know the importance of eating healthy. For their community service project they wanted to help out the entire community and has heard that our Social Service Office was low on food after the holidays, so we organized a food drive to help our community. They were very successful and worked hard to ensure many people would be helped.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

They wanted to do something to benefit the community and what better way than a food drive. This is something that all families and staff can take part in. We arranged with the Boy Scouts to have barrels delivered and then would pick up 3 weeks later. It was a very easy project for the students and they really took pride in seeing the amount of food that was brought in and how many families they were helping.
