Teamwork

Test-taking can be strenuous on our minds. In order to spearhead the possibility of stress during tests without students, the entire staff was trained and provided videos in Tai Chi for kids. Our test-taking grade teachers implemented regular fitness breaks using Tai Chi and reported that the students appeared jovial and stress-free at test time. The students report they felt better able to retain information and that the test did not seem so difficult or scary.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Teachers were not at first optimistic about the Tai Chi program, but with the help of PD's they became more comfortable and willing to try it.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students were very interested in the Tai Chi exercises and expressed how it made them feel, encouraging teachers to continue the program.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Our test scores have improved slightly, and the students come to school ready and willing to learn.
