Take the Pledge!

Anna Lee Elquist,   Oakley Junior-senior High School
Access to Healthy Foods, Physical Activity Participation,  Success with Funds
Take the Pledge!

With the Funds that we were able to acquire, we now have a food cart here in the school where the kids are able to get breakfast and lunch! Before this was available here in the school, kids had to walk about 300 feet over to the cafeteria at the elementary school. This has been a huge improvement for our kids/school! In addition, the PE dept. was able to purchase close to $2,000 worth of miscellaneous fitness equipment. The athletic director and PE teachers were thrilled. Pictured is the banner that was placed in the hall for the kids to sign, taking the Pledge to Fuel Up to Play 60!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The PE classes will benefit next year and beyond as the kids will be able to have a variety of activities they can do in classes thanks to the additional equipment e.g yoga mats and badminton racquets. Because of the success of the food cart in the school, the district plans to hire a part-time cafeteria help to come over and do a hot lunch every day. We'll also continue to have free breakfast here at the school which has never been done before.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Having access to food at the school has been a big improvement for all students and also faculty.

How did you accomplish your goals?

The goal was to have the funds for more PE equipment and also to finally have meals available here at the high school, rather than having the kids continue to walk to the elementary school cafeteria. Goals accomplished! THANK YOU
