Talk the Talk, Walk the Walk

Kim Tracanna-Breault,   Lakeside Elementary School
Access to Healthy Foods, Community Involvement, Physical Activity Participation, Student Leadership, Success with Funds,  Teamwork

We kicked off the year by pledging to strive for wellness and to increase our level of physical activity throughout the school year. We had a back to school superhero dance with the entire Lakeside community and danced for wellness for three hours. We promoted Walk to School Day and participated in that event with record highs of students and parents walking to school. We all talked the talk and walked the walk, participating in a mile challenge all week long. Lakers are striving to increase their maximum participation and commit to 60 minutes of exercise each day. Wellness is a lifelong process.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

They had a common goal and strived to reach it and to promote wellness.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Kids are a bit more excited about committing to 60 minutes of physical activity per day and to adopt wellness as a daily lifestyle.
