Taste the Rainbow

The Fuel Up to Play 60 team members offered five different fruits and vegetables in five colors of the rainbow for students to taste test. The five foods included yellow peppers, red radishes, green kiwi, orange cantaloupe and purple low-sugar grape juice. The school staff cut up the food items and the team members handed them out to the students. Many students tried something new! Our goal was to educate our fellow students about the importance of eating a variety of fruits and vegetables every day and what a great a tasty snack fruits and vegetable can be.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The students brainstormed ideas for which foods they would like to use for their taste test. The students presented their ideas to the school staff who would need to prepare the food. Once the plan was set, the students followed up with the staff the day before each taste testing day to make sure there was enough paper supplies that would be needed. Once the staff had the food prepared, the students divided it up in small portions for all the students to try.
