Physical Activity Participation

During the classroom teacher's Organized Physical Activity (OPA) time, the classes have been walking, jogging or running the track set up on the north end of our campus. The teachers are collecting data of each student's number of laps daily. Then they contact me, the PE teacher, so that I can present their students with Fitness Finder Toe Tokens. The kids LOVE earning small rewards for their hard work. It's a WIN-WIN for all! Some classes are really getting into the running spirit and have made a half-mile loop and go every day!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

I can continue this Play yearly by getting funding from our school to buy the inexpensive toe tokens. I know the teachers enjoy the activity as much as the students do! Over time the interest may wane, so I'll step it up by adding a trip "Across America" or some kind of friendly competition for the number of laps completed in a specific time frame.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The kids are moving more and enjoying it! Isn't that the BEST!
