Our Fuel Up To Play 60 student team chose to have a smoothie competition with everyone in the school. The team created recipe rules, such as at least 1 vegetable, 1 fruit, 1 dairy, etc. They then created a video for morning announcements to explain that all students in the school could participate by submitting a smoothie recipe. They received over 50 recipes and after reading through and voting, they narrowed it down to three finalists. I then ordered the ingredients for the three smoothies, enough for the entire school to try a 2 oz. smoothie. The morning of the taste test, the team cut up, poured, and organized the ingredients. During lunch they had a table with samples of each smoothie. Each student in the school was able to sample each smoothie and vote for their favorite! And thanks to FUTP 60, we were able to show our muscle power by blending a few smoothies in the smoothie bike that we were able to borrow for the day. Winners of the smoothie competition were announced during a school assembly.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
The students came up with the idea, rules, and organization. Adults ordered food and organized the behind the scenes.
How did you accomplish your goals?
We set deadlines/goals that we worked towards and even with a few setbacks, we were able to accomplish those goals!
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
We would love to organize this competition every year! The entire school, including teachers, loved trying the smoothies. Our students were able to see how easy it was to make a healthy snack!
