Riverdale Ag Day

Our third annual ag day was held in September 2016. We invited area farmers to bring their equipment, machinery and livestock to host stations for our elementary school. Students learned how soil was prepared, planted and cared for until harvest time. Students learned about different livestock raised on our area farms. One of the stations was a FUTP 60 snack station. We utilized supplies received from a previous grant and served apples slices, milk and beef jerky. Students played a quiz game with farm facts as well.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

I think any time a student can understand the process and appreciate agriculture, it is a win. So many people take the food on their plate for granted without realizing the hard work put forth by so many to get it there.

How did you accomplish your goals?

While we are a rural school, not many of our students live on a farm. They have a better understanding and appreciation for the agriculture community that surrounds them.
