Access to Healthy Foods

South Bendle K-2 students enjoyed a fun, healthy event as they learned about new fruits and vegetables by feeling, touching, and tasting them. Staff used 3 activities from the Three Ring Circus book created by UDIM. Three stations were set up and the students rotated from one station to another. Volunteers taught the students the activity and assisted the children in making a sample clown face out of vegetables. Everyone enjoyed the fun event. The decorations were veggie and fruit balloons, circus animals, and baskets of fruit so each child could take one back to their class.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Planning is key to this activity. The principal, food service staff, and director met to organize the timing and activities.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Volunteers facilitated each station and assisted with the food activities. Children loved touching and feeling different fruits and veggies.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The greatest challenge is finding a day in the school calendar that works for this 2 hour event. The food and decorations must have a budget as well.
