Trailwoods Uses Composting Every Day
At Trailwoods, students use composting to re-purpose empty milk cartons and uneaten food. Every day in the cafeteria, students sort their unused materials into designated barrels for compost, recycle, and trash. All of the materials are taken to a composting center to be converted to soil for the community. Each student is responsible for recycling their own meal trays for breakfast and lunch.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Students needed to be educated on the correct procedure for recycling. Some students ignored the correct barrel and need encouragement from their peers. The Fuel Up to Play 60 team serves as mentors to help others follow the procedure.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Our program at Trailwoods is designed to last for the entire school year and into next year.
