The West Bendle Food Service staff have prepared a new recipe from the USDA Team Nutrition Recipe Book each Thrusday for the students to try a sample. The focus is trying new fruits and vegetables. The students can't wait for the next Thursday to come so they can try a sample and request that the item be placed on the menu. The participation has increased by 18 students each week.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students now choose Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and sweet potato and apple casserole. Students have more variety in their diet.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Food service staff are committed to continuing their sampling experience because students are excited about coming to lunch. Staff have been able to do this without adding hours to their day.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The challenge is having dollars to purchase the unusual foods. With Fuel Up to Play 60 Funds and Chef Ann funds this was possible.
