Breakfast For Everyone — First Meal Matters

Community Involvement
This year, Beaufort Elementary had its first taste of breakfast in the classroom. Reluctant to start school-wide the school chose to try BIC in their Montessori classes. The students and teachers loved it. The BIC set up allowed the students to come directly to the classroom and enjoy the breakfast meal as a community. It also allowed more students to eat even if they came late, as the food was already in the classroom waiting for them. Teachers reported this saved valuable class minutes for the students and was less disruptive to the class. Overall, the BIC experience was a great success.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The most challenging component of BIC was teacher and administrator buy-in/support. Teachers were very reluctant and worried about the mess. However, the teachers reported no issues during the pilot.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Our goal is to get more grades/ classes to join in BIC and make it school-wide.
