Oct 1-5th was fruit week at VDELC. The students and staff participated by dressing in colors and trying new fruits each day. Parents packed fruit for snacks and lunches and hot lunches included the fruit also. Teachers planned fun fruit activities thought out the week, and fruit games were played in gym class. All week the students learned the importance of a healthy and balanced food plate as well as why activity is important for a healthy life.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Each day was assigned a different color. Staff and students were asked to wear that color and eat some kind of fruit that was the color of the day.
How did you accomplish your goals?
The hallways were a sea of color. Middle school mentors came over at lunch time and rewarded students with fruit with stickers. Over 1,000 stickers were handed out in 5 days.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
Whenever I visit in the cafeteria, students are excited to show me the fruit they are eating.
