March 19-23 was Vegetable Week at our school. Students and staff were encouraged to wear the color of the day. The cafeteria was decorated with different posters of veggies. Students were provided with different kinds of vegetables to look at, smell, and taste. Special guests were in the cafeteria to give out stickers to students eating vegetables. Teachers discussed how different colored vegetables help the body. Vegetable games were played in PE. It was a great week.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Each day of Vegetable Week is assigned a specific vegetable color. Staff and students wear the color and ask each other if they can name a vegetable that is that color. The students love to see the staff participating in wearing the colored clothing.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
After vegetable week the nurse, PE teacher, and/or cafeteria manager will surprise students at lunch to check and see if anyone has veggies to eat. Teachers send notes home reminding parents that veggies make great snacks for students to bring to school.
How did you accomplish your goals?
Vegetable week was very successful. Students and staff looked forward to it. Students are trying different veggies and asking parents to put veggies in their lunch or to have for snack.
