I have had the honor to be gifted with an amazing group of students who enjoy their run club! Vickery Running Club is really exciting to the students. We have over 70+ students involved in our weekly run club, which is held before school. As a first year teacher, I am fortunate the previous teacher created an awesome atmosphere. Students are rewarded with tokens for mileage achieved. We have one of our very own FUTP 60 Student Leaders who has achieved over 250 miles from Kindergarten to 5th grade! Our 5th students leaders are very driven and have worked hard by taking surveys with cafeteria management, our nurse and other staff. They have completed awesome posters promoting fitness and had them displayed in the main hallway!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Communication is difficult being that they are in elementary school. Using Google emails provided by the school and word of mouth allowed us to find time to meet together and accomplish our goals.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students over-all excitement about physical activity has increased. Attitudes about physical activity have improved and the desire to learn about more sports, games, and activities they could play at home has increased.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

I am going to continue applying 21 day challenges throughout the year to get students up and moving, using our announcements to get the word out and continue surveying students about interest and excitement level during my time with them.
