Volleyball School Champions

Our school has continued its success with our Annual Fuel Up to Play 60 school wide volleyball tournament. We have an in class tournament and the champions from each of the 7 class periods are permitted (with no gpa restrictions only behavior expectations in place) to come to the gym for 3-4 hours and participate in a school wide tournament. The ultimate winner plays against the staff team and then our student ambassadors. The rest of the school is invited down to watch with the permission of the classroom teachers. Our student ambassadors are required to run the tournament, be announcers, line judges, run the scoreboards, etc. It is a wonderful day and we have students, more and more signing up for PE classes just to be part of this activity.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We hope to secure funding to support this activity - we do give medals to the class champions and have been able to give a trophy or another medal for school wide champions. But this year we did not have money for the school wide winners to get anything special.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

As stated earlier we have seen an increase in older students who have already achieved their PE graduation requirement credits, signing up to re-ate PE classes in order to participate in this activity.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our student ambassadors are required to run the tournament, be announcers, line judges, run the scoreboards, etc. The staff assembles a team as well to play against the student team.
