This year our Fuel Up to Play 60 team wanted more opportunities to use the gym. It's tough getting gym time after school with sports and Intramurals, so we came up with a program called Wake Up Wednesday. All FUTP 60 students are allowed to come to school early to play in the gym on Wednesday mornings. Students who are unable to get a ride to school early can just come in from their school bus and play in the gym. We do activities such as dodgeball, basketball, and capture the football! It wakes up their bodies and their brains to get them ready to learn in the classroom!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We do this every Wednesday for the entire school year! We put out reminders on our Instagram account and students share the news with their friends so they remember to come.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We worked together to come up with a catchy name for the program. Students fill out a green "Wake Up Wednesday" pass that they have to show in order to get into the school building early. Students vote on which physical activity they want to do each Wednesday.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

More and more students are signing up for Fuel Up to Play 60, because they want to come and play in the gym in the morning. Kids in the lobby peak into the gym and ask how they can come in and play, too. So we tell them that they have to be part of our team by creating an account online, and they do!
