Physical Activity Participation

Our school completely revamped our Walk Around Wednesday program with the help of FUTP 60 dollars to be able to give the first 100 students to complete the 60 mile club a t-shirt. We also had prizes at the 30 mile and 50 mile plateau. We had a great number of students in every grade level, k-6, who were able to achieve the final goal and receive the t-shirt. Winners were announced at our last 2 quarter awards assemblies with parents and all students present to show what effects this program is having on our school. We owe a lot of thanks to FUTP 60 for allowing us to use money to help promote our wellness programs here at Hendricks Elementary.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Student achievement and participation went up by 12% from last year.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The teachers would wear the t-shirts on Wednesdays to help promote the final goal. We also would announce any 30 and 50 mile winners during announcements each week.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Continuing to find ways to motivate students in the older grades and once many prize levels were met. We had other incentives we started to use in February to help keep kids going and it worked wonders.
