Walk for Wellness Club
Topics:
Physical Activity Participation

We coordinated an all school walk at Prairie Wind to increase wellness awareness and raise money for Wellness Club. We had all the students walk during their first recess and invited parents to participate with fliers. We had many parents come join their student and we raised $300 as we asked for a dollar donation that day from students and staff. Staff participated and wore their favorite work out gear.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We met with the wellness team last month to have them promote the walk in the school. We were planning on making posters but instead worked on the Breakfast competition due last month.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

We removed small playground equipment so students would be encouraged to participate in the walk. Students from the wellness team acted as leaders for their grade to encourage participation.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We are planning for a spring fling walk to again raise money for the Wellness Team so we can buy garden plants and supplies, and will again encourage more parents to participate. We may hold a contest to see who has the most parent participation among classrooms.
