This school year, 2015-2016, Jim Thorpe Academy has been actively logging the miles. Our Health and Fitness class has been walking between 3 and 4.5 miles each and every week. Our students assess their strength every 2 to 3 weeks and many are showing growth and weight loss. They have participated in our local OSU Extension Office Healthy Foods program and are loving the introduction to new and exciting recipes. We will continue throughout this year and will complete this year STRONG!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We have incorporated 2 treadmills and bodyweight machines into our school fitness area and this helps us to be successful on bad weather days.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The students realize that they need the proper nutrition to remain healthy and strong. I have seen less sickness and missed school days and I have seen quiet students step up and become leaders.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Consistency is key. My students create small reachable goals at the beginning of the semester and we assess every 2 weeks or so to see what direction they are headed. Never quit striving towards the end game.
