Walking Oaks Are on the Move
For the third school year, a walking club is being offered at Oak Hill Elementary for students to walk at recess to earn incentives. Students have "walking cards" that are presented to the teachers to stamp with each day walked. Students must walk for at least 15 minutes to qualify. After 25 stamps, the student turns in the card for the first incentive. Incentives are given at 25, 50, 75, and 100 days walked. So far, 65 students in grades 3-5 are enrolled.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

I plan to keep this club going in future schools years by making it student-friendly and including student input. I want it to be a club they want to enjoy.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Weather is a major challenge, but I allow for walking at home and at indoor recess.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Yes, more children are walking and being active at recess.
