Walking Program's Biggest Start Ever!

Our walking program is off the the biggest start in our three-year history. We added a new barcode tracking system thanks to Fuel Up to Play 60 funding this year, and wow, what a difference! Our older students now basically run the show for us!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

In the past, we had about 2-3 older students helping each day with the data collection. This year, with adding the barcode system, we have about 10 student helpers and at least three times as many students out running/walking laps each day.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Being in Florida, our walking program actually gets bigger and bigger as the year goes on and the weather cools down. We hope to get more parents and staff members out walking with us to help get the entire school fit, healthy, and ready to learn.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

More students want to be leaders! Our classroom teachers are telling us that the students who come out to run in the mornings are much more focused first thing in the morning and they plan to try to get more students involved.
