Community Involvement

Wednesday mornings, our buses drop students off at a designated area. Parents and community members walk to school with the participating students. Each parent and community member has a red flag for safety, and a group of students walk the remaining distance to school. Parents who normally drive students to school drop them off at a designated area. This is every Wednesday and is only cancelled if weather conditions do not permit.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The students and adults recruited each other. This was a great community gathering and exciting to get started. Walking School Bus t-shirts were given to all members, adults, and students.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Posted ideas on school Facebook page and discussed at PTO meetings.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Student involvement was encouraged by drawing names at the end of the day, and a prize was given to one walking school bus participant from each grade level at the end of the day.
