This school year, Albright Middle School implemented an after-school program. We decided that one of the primary focuses would be on health and wellness. We targeted fitness and sports skills during the 1st phrase of implementation. For 5 days and 1 or 2 hours each day, students can engage in group fitness activities or group sport-skills building activities.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
We have seen a tremendous amount of students that are participating in various fitness or sports activities afterschool. We even have a waiting list for students that want to participate! Our students are not only getting fit, they are also engaging in low-risk and meaningful activities. Some of our higher at risk students have shown a decrease in behavioral issues and an increase in academic growth.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
The hope is to continue to offer students fun activities (roller skating) that they might not yet a chance to participant in during school or on their free time. We want to expose kids to various activities and creating message of lifetime fitness throughout the year(s).
