For one week, our students kept track of how much food waste each class had. There were buckets at each table and at the end of lunch, the waste was weighed and recorded. The kids did a great job of wasting less. Instead of taking 2 helpings right away, they would take one and then see if they were still hungry, so they wasted less. It was a great learning experience and the winning 3rd graders will receive a yogurt parfait party for their efforts!
How did students and adults work together as a team?
The students came up with the idea and were in the lunchroom making sure everyone threw their waste in the correct bucket.
