Waste Reduction Week

Food: Waste Less and Enjoy — It's Good for All of Us!
Our goal was to educate students about how much food the school wastes within a week. Week 1- Preperation The teachers were giving information to read to their students to prepare them for the Waste Reduction Week. Flyers were hung up around the building to promote the event. A scale was brought in to use for the week. Week 2-Implementation- January 13-17 Two trash cans were set out during breakfast and lunch. A staff stood next to the trash cans to help make sure the extra food was in the correct trash can. After lunch staff weighed the extra food. Data was collected from each day of the week (There was a snow day on one of the days, so we collected waste for 4 days). Week 3-Results We announced the results to the students and staff. We wasted 20 pounds of food in 4 days. We are glad we made them aware of how much food they were wasting. We noticed them trying to eat more food before throwing it away. It was a successful event!
