Community Playtime – It’s Good for Everyone
Community Involvement
We Are Family!!! Every year we host a Family Fit Day at Elm Grove Elementary where students and their families come together to learn and participate in healthy choices and activities. This year Jayna Love Homes partnered with the Elm Grove Elementary PTA and Coach Vosburg to bring Family Fit Day 2017 to the Buda community! We had a 5k, 3k and 1k, along with other activities centered on fitness and living a healthy lifestyle. Cindy Jones (PTA Chair of Family Fit Day), Coach Vosburg (EGE's PE Teacher) and the Fuel Up To Play 60 student leaders at Elm Grove Elementary received a title sponsorship check of $1000 from The Jayna Love Homes crew. All fundraising dollars from Family Fit Day ($2,859.57) was donated into the Physical Education Program at Elm Grove Elementary, including purchasing new PE equipment and improving existing PE programs utilized by ALL of our students in K-5th grade. Some of the money was used to purchase regulation soccer goals that not only can be used by the students, but by the community also. Our Leaders also again teamed up with Easter Seals to raise awareness for people with disabilities. Easter Seals provide services for the disabled. We held a clothing drive that benefited both Elm Grove students and the disabled community. In addition, our students learned how to be heart heroes. It's a win-win situation! Our Fuel Up To Play 60 Leaders decided for their “Nutrition Play” to have a recipe book made up by the students of Elm Grove. The book featured recipes made or chosen by students to promote healthy eating with their families. Our last community effort was educating the kids after school in our community about being active with a fun game called Capture the Football. The Fuel Up To Play 60 Leaders worked with community groups to promote physical activity after school by teaching them how to be active while having fun!

What improvements have you seen at your school?

More of the community is getting involved in the program. We had a great support from PTA and community leaders this year not only supporting our program but putting money back into it so all the students and community could benefit.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We had weekly meetings on Mondays after school. The students did all the work, I just guided them. I also had meeting with community leaders to help make sure everything was going ok for the events.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We have continued our work with PTA and Easter Seals and have gotten more support from individual community leaders. We plan to keep this trend going. Every year it gets better and better.
