Community Involvement

This year our PTO has been overseeing a running club that takes place during our recess time. At this time we have 26 students that have logged more than 26 miles. These students will be able to go run at an event called the Grand Blue Mile, which takes place during the Drake Relays. Also planned for this spring is a fun run that ties in with the running club. This fun run will be held during the school day and will have all students take part in a 20-minute run through the neighborhood. Local business will be donating funds to the run as well as healthy snacks to the students.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The students seem to really enjoy taking part in this activity. They ask for it at the beginning of the school year and keep asking the teachers to start it back up as soon as the snow has melted.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The students have another option during recess time. This has helped with students staying busy during that time.
