This is my first year at my school, and I hit the ground running! Fuel Up to Play 60 has been pivotal in establishing a healthy culture at my school! After completing the assessment, I saw students needed help in making nutritious choices and moving in the classroom. Fuel Up to Play 60 has helped to improve our school's wellness climate and supported us in working on the areas that needed it the most!

How did you accomplish your goals?

In the fall, I submitted an application for a FUTP60 grant, and was approved! I've been able to select informational nutrition posters to go around school, and develop a scavenger hunt in the announcements with prizes for students who submit the correct answers from the posters. I've also been able to prepare a professional development presentation for my colleagues on the importance of physical activity breaks in the classroom, and supply each classroom with a set of brain break cards.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenge was accessing quality resources that would really change the climate at my school. Fuel Up to Play 60 provided in a big way with the grant funding! As a result of that funding, the two areas our school needed to tackle head-on became realistic action steps.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Teachers will be equipped with knowledge of the importance of physical activity throughout the day and the tools to make it happen! Every classroom will be set to provide physical activity breaks and better meet the needs of our students. High quality posters will be available to use for years in the future, and students can continue to learn from them.
