Wellness 2017

Monthly classroom exercise goals-15 minutes of activity 3 days a week. We have 66.6% participation, which is the most we have ever had. We had an average of 40 students participate in 8 weeks of wellness club where they had nutrition lessons, exercise & healthy snacks. Our Wellness Night in February was well attended by families. They received a free dinner of a sandwich, baked chips & water. We had activities for families to do together such as: basketball, obstacle course, giant jenga, Go Noodle, Minute to Win It, internet safety, scavenger hunt, importance of sleep booth, KROC center info, tobacco wheel, healthy selfie. One 6th grade class also participated in the 100 mile club.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Adults & students worked side by side at our Wellness Night to make it a success. The activities were also geared for parents and families to participate together.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Increased participation in our classroom activity goals. We increased by 20% this year.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We have a dedicated staff that are willing to exercise with students and show by example how to live healthy. We now have several classrooms that also allow students to have water bottles in the classroom to keep hydrated. OPS has added an extra recess time this year into the cirriculum.
