Westridge Making the Case

Our team planned an all-school assembly focusing on healthy breakfast. Within our school we have "Family Circles" where each adult has a group of approximately 10 students. We started the Family Circle as a large group and the team of students shared information on why breakfast is so important. Then each Family Circle took time to discuss what makes up a healthy breakfast. They also compared what they were eating at home with what the school breakfast served. We pointed out the school breakfast had all the needed items for a healthy breakfast. Overall this event was very successful as many kids and teachers are now discussing healthy breakfasts.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our Fuel Up to Play 60 team came up with the idea about what to discuss during our Family Circles. Then within each Family Circle the teachers helped lead the kids through discussions.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We want to keep reminding kids the importance of health breakfasts and how the school breakfast is a great choice. Our next step is to bring in surprise guests during breakfast to increase awareness and even enthusiasm for school breakfast.
