Where Does Dairy Come From
We were able to provide a week-long enrichment class that discussed "What is dairy? Where does milk come from?". We made different things with milk (ice cream, butter, whipped cream), and learned about the life of a dairy farmer. We ended our week with a special visitor from a local dairy farm. We had a cow and his farmer come pay us a visit. It was a great fun-filled week.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We added another flavor of milk. We now offer white, strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. We also have flavored vanilla yogurt with gelatin to increase yogurt consumption. We have created recipes mixing yogurt with various fruits to encourage yogurt consumption. We also offer yogurt and cheese on a daily basis.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

I hope to continue to create recipes using various dairy products that the kids enjoy to help encourage the consumption of dairy products. I also hope to continue educating kids about the importance of dairy in their diets for strong bones.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

I have seen a slight increase in our milk purchases.
