This year, our students had the amazing opportunity to see first hand where milk comes from! As a part of their school education program, Southwest Dairy Farmers brought a very special guest to help educate the students at Hicks Elementary.
"The Southwest Dairy Farmers is an alliance of dairy farmers from Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Virginia, Kentucky and North Carolina. These producers have pooled their resources to provide consumer education in nutrition, to promote dairy product use, and provide dairy product information."
The Southwest Dairy Museum sent out a Dairy Cow with Mobile Dairy Teacher Mr. Aaron Sanders. Mr. Sanders talked to our students about the importance of milk, how dairy cows are raised and cared for, and how we get milk from dairy cows! Students were able to watch the process first hand as Mr. Sanders demonstrated the unique milking process and explained the many healthy benefits to drinking milk every day.
Dairy farmers direct and fund all activities in that effort. We were so lucky to have this experience!
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
We incorporated information presented during the Mobile Dairy visit to help students drink more milk with their lunches at school.
