We realized that students listen to music outside of school and decided to make up a workout to the trending song Whip Nae Nae. Since the students listen to the music outside of school, we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to make it into a physical fitness song. The students used some of the original moves and incorporated exercise moves including jumping jacks, squats, and push-ups. They picked good exercise moves that get their body warmed up and their heart pumping. The students loved that they made their own moves to it, so we now use it as our warm-up in PE. The students were actually going home and showing their family members, and it was the talk of the school. Our principal then asked us to pick a few students from each grade level to perform for the PTA/board meeting. Everyone at the meeting enjoyed the dance!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students and adults worked together as a team to figure out what exercises to use at different parts of the song.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Some of the students wanted to just do the original moves for the whole song, but as soon they saw other students collaborating together to do exercise moves for different parts of the song, they wanted to put their opinion in.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Improvements include seeing the students work together to do other activities around the school.
