Whole Grain Trail Mix Tasting

The Fuel Up student leaders served samples to all students during lunch. Students were encouraged to create their own versions at home.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our student team worked with the district foodservice director to create and serve a whole grain snack mix. The snack mix included two kinds of whole grain cereal, 4 fruits (banana chips, dried apricots, dried cranberries, and yogurt covered raisins).

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The student team was frustrated at first when some kids either refused to try or said they didn't like the trail mix. We assured them this was OK-it's meant to be a sample and shared ways they could encourage them to try it.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

This was the first food tasting at Ferry Elementary. It is their first year as a Fuel up to Play 60 school We see empowerment and leadership coming out in our student leaders after this first event.
