When noticing an abundance of healthy and nutritious food being reluctantly thrown away at lunches' end, our FUTP 60 team immediately stepped in to help. With a bit of research under our belt, we came across the idea of “share-tables” to help eliminate the food waste.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Our amazing food-service workers helped set the stage by creating a share-table to safely place the unwanted/unused food items. At the end of our last lunch every day, one of our amazing FUTP 60 Ambassadors helps to carrying the surplus to be safely packed away until our biweekly distribution. Our Program Advisor then drives the food to the Salvation Army, a local shelter we found that would take our rescued food to distribute in their food pantry to help the local community it serves.
