Access to Healthy Foods

William Allen White Elementary students walked to school together along with parent volunteers instead of riding the school bus on that day. It took parent, teacher, and staff participation to make it a success and the kids loved it. They got a chance to work as one big team and burn some calories while having fun and being safe.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

By coordinating the route and making sure everyone remained safe.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The logistics of getting everyone together in one place.The students were all picked at their normal bus routes and then all of the buses met at one spot and the students and parent volunteers got off the buses and completed their 1-mile walk to school.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

William Allen White is working to have more events like this and we have also added new bike racks for students who want to ride their bikes to school. That has also been a success.
