We held a two week food drive at our school in December of 2015. We offered a pizza party to the class that brought in the most items. We collected a total of 1193 items to donate to people in our community. Food went to Catholic Charities and to Centro Civico, who makes baskets to distribute to families at the Three Kings Celebration in January.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students in the leadership team worked together to collect the food from each classroom and record how many items were brought in on a daily basis. Other students sorted and organized the food into like categories.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We offered a pizza party to the class that brought in the most food items. We sent home notes with all students at the beginning of the food drive, had the PTO put it on their Facebook page, and had announcements every day on the morning announcements.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We want to have another food drive later in the school year. We hope to do it in February for Easter food baskets in March. We are going to do more research to see what the best kinds of food items to ask for are.
