Our amazing Fuel Up to Play 60 Poston Jr High Team worked together figuring out, planning, and following through with their Eating Healthy Play: It’s All About Your Choices - Go Nutritious. It started off with helping our neighboring elementary school with getting their garden started this school year. Our FUTP 60 students worked hard with teachers and parents, cleaning and pruning the school garden and the garden beds and wheelbarrowing in mulch to get the garden ready for a fresh new start. Our FUTP 60 Team collaborated and accomplished their goals through teamwork. Our ending goal was to have a school taste test with local fruits and veggies from the elementary school's garden. We later found out through our district, that any food served during school hours has to be bought and packaged. Then our original plan was changed. Instead, we did our FUTP 60 event after school and did a create your own yogurt parfait style set up and had a volleyball match with the 7th and 8th graders, teachers, and parents. Our FUTP 60 Team successfully ended with everyone having an exciting time eating healthy and being active. Super proud of our Team for pulling off and sharing such a fun Fuel Up to Play 60 event with everyone that came out to join us.
How did you accomplish your goals?
Our Fuel Up to Play 60 Team accomplished their goals through teamwork. Our first goal was achieved by teaming up and helping with the Elementary school’s garden. Our second goal had to be changed. However, the change of our second goal turned out to be an overall fun success.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
The first idea of our Fuel Up to Play 60 Play was to have a taste test with our local fruits and veggies from the garden. After our Fuel Up to Play 60 Team found out that was not going to be possible, they figured out another approach to making their Play work and be successful.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Through Fuel Up to Play 60 the students, teachers and parents all helped with the care and maintenance of the school’s garden. Our 7th and 8th Fuel Up to Play 60 Team put together a volleyball match between each other and their parents and teachers.
