We decided to incorporate yoga into our classroom activities. Not only could students use this in classes, but also they could incorporate it outside of school into a life long activity for themselves, family or friends.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
We put together a group of easy to handle yoga activities. We wanted to stress that when participating and engaging in yoga activities, not to be afraid. We also wanted students to embrace the idea that, yoga is easy and a life long activity you can share with others.
How did you accomplish your goals?
Students became involved at the same basic level to start. As time went on they split into groups that were more comfortable with them and each other when engaging in this activity.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
By learning yoga, students build strength in their core areas and increase their flexibility. The session first started out by teaching the reason for the activity. Secondly, we had students select leaders for their workout groups that they were comfortable with. Some students now use it during lunch, free time and at home.
