Yogurt Parfait Bar

Yogurt bar, highlighting nutritious foods, was created the week of February 6, 2017. The purpose of this event was to encourage dairy and be open-minded to trying new, healthy foods. Approximately 468 students were reached. Fuel up to Play 60 partnered with the American Heart Association, specifically Jump Rope for Heart. The importance of eating a healthy diet, including dairy (the versatility of yogurt) and a rainbow of colors was discussed. Heart prevention tips were also given. There are current and past students suffering with heart issues, and their heroic behavior was emphasized. Some of the new foods sampled included organic roasted seaweed, pomegranates, brown rice rolls, green snap pea crisps, blackberries, blueberries and winter squash. Two videos were shown including How the Body Works and Exploring the Heart. All students participating were very excited! They were even more anxious to hit the obstacle course after sampling the yogurt bar! Mrs. Lembeck, Mr. Dyer, and Mrs. Gerber as well as the Fuel Up to Play 60 student team all collaborated to make this event happen.
