You Are What You Eat at Westside High
The Westside High School DECA Diamonds have collaborated with our cafeteria worker to promote healthy eating habits. The cafeteria workers provide free healthy meals for breakfast and lunch in moderate portions. The WHS DECA members ensure that both our vending machines and Spear It Shop sale healthy snacks and drinks to our students. The members also offer free taste testing to promote and market new products being sold inside of the school store. Lastly, the members have chosen teacher leaders in each content area to serve as ambassadors to promote healthy eating choices for at least five minutes on each Monday and Friday during the closing session of their classes.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Each Friday, different members of the WHS DECA Diamonds support the cafeteria workers during lunch by assisting them with serving our students healthy food options.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The students and adults work collaboratively at different work stations in the cafeteria to ensure all students receive a healthy lunch in a timely manner.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

I have noticed students and adults paying close attention to the food labels on the items they choose for breakfast and lunch. Individuals are becoming more concerned about the amount of calories they are consuming.
