Chelan Fresh and FUTP 60 Continue to Help Increase Student Access to Nutritious Meals
There are 30 million students that rely on school meals every day and childhood food insecurity rates continue to rise, which is why access to school meals is more important than ever. The effects of COVID-19 can be felt across the nation as now 1 in 4 children are food insecure compared to 1 in 6 prior to the Pandemic. By providing Fuel Up to Play 60 schools, across 2 states with portable breakfast/salad bar carts, Chelan Fresh and FUTP 60 are helping increasing student access to more nutritious food choices in school. The portable breakfast/salad carts will reach over 1800 students, serving an estimated 286,000 meals annually (in addition to an estimated 2.4M meals served as a result of carts provided during FUTP 60’s and Chelan Fresh’s previous collaborations). Finding new ways to serve nutritious meals in schools (like low-fat and fat-free dairy products, fruits, vegetables and whole grains) is helping students fuel their full potential.
The portable breakfast/salad bar carts will be provided to select FUTP 60 schools in Washington and Texas in time for the 2020-2021 school year.
